fineprint privacy policy
fineprint exists because privacy policies are too long, so this one is short.
What we receive. When fineprint finds terms you're being asked to accept, it sends the address of the terms document to our server, which downloads and reads it. If the website blocks our server, your browser downloads that document instead and sends us its text; this only happens for documents on the same website as the page you're on. If you press "Read it in a background tab", fineprint briefly opens the document in a tab, copies its text, and closes the tab. If you press "Scan this page", it sends the text of that page. We also receive a random install ID (generated on your device, not linked to you) and your IP address, which we use only to enforce daily usage limits. IP addresses are never stored as-is: we keep only a one-way scrambled version, which can't be turned back into your address and is deleted after about a day.
What we don't receive. We never see what you type into forms, your passwords, your browsing history, or the contents of pages fineprint doesn't scan.
What happens to it. The terms text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce the summary. Summaries are cached for 30 days, keyed by the document's contents, so other users who see the same terms get the same result. Rate-limit counters expire after about a day. We don't sell or share data with anyone else, and we don't use it for advertising.
Changes. If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with the date changed before it takes effect.
